This event serves as an introduction to the works of contemporary Romanian playwright Matei Vișniec, with a special focus on the play Jeanne d’Arc and the Fire. Our speakers—translator Shigehito Shiga and actors Junko Kudo and Mino Shibasaki—will explore the realms of translation and the performance of theatre plays, illuminating the captivating storytelling found in Vișniec’s works, where each actor may portray multiple characters.
A dramatic reading from Jeanne d’Arc and the Fire, accompanied by a photography exhibition of Vișniec’s plays at KAZE Repertory Theatre in Tokyo, will enhance the journey into the contemporary Romanian author’s oeuvre.
