Ricardo Adolfo was born in Angola in 1974 but returned to Portugal during his early childhood after Angola's independence. He debuted in 2003 with the short-story collection All Chorizos are for Burning, and first novel, Mizé, became a bestseller in Portugal. In 2015 he published Tokyo is Far from the Earth, a collection of short stories in which he depicts the peculiar daily life of Japan from the perspective of a foreign salaryman working in the country. Three of these stories were featured in the Anthology of Portuguese Contemporary Literature (2019) in Japanese. Adolfo also writes scripts for dramas and films, creates picture books, and works in the global advertising industry. He has been based in Tokyo since 2012.
