Professor Emeritus at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS), author of numerous translations of Polish literature into Japanese (works of Jan Kochanowski, Adam Mickiewicz, Bolesław Prus, Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, Witold Gombrowicz, Stanisław Lem, Zbigniew Herbert and others) as well as books: Poland and The Other (Tokyo 2014); Essays not entirely Polish (Cracow 2016).
He was awarded numerous, prestigious literary awards, among them: Yomiuri Prize for Literature (2017), the Fryderyk Chopin Society’s Award (2019) and Transatlantic Prize by the Polish Book Institute (2021).
